Emmitt Hines, Jr. Obituary

FINAL SALUTE

A Soldier never truly dies

Even after the battles cease

Your courage and bravery

Allowed us to rest in peace

The sacrifices you endured

Too many for us to compute

So we honor you with heads held high

To render your final salute

Obituary

Emmitt Hines, Jr was born the eldest of five children to the union of Emmett, Sr and Ruth Hines. Emmitt was born in Warren, Arkansas. He learned about Jesus Christ at an early age and became a member of Union Hill Missionary Church in Warren.

While at the University of Arkansas (Pine Bluff), he was drafted into the US Army serving continuously in the Military Police Corps until his retirement in 1995. He served in military units around the world including Germany, Honduras, South Korea and in the States. By the time he retired, he had progressed to the highest rank that an enlisted soldier in the United States Army could attain, that of Command Sergeant Major. For his many years of service and his sacrifice, he was awarded several distinguished medals including the Legion of Merit, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, and various other awards and certificates. After his military retirement, he continued to hone and use his law enforcement skills as a civilian contractor working in countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Affectionately known as “Sonny” to close family and friends, and as “Buck” to many, many others, he first came to Maryland in 1985 when he was reassigned to Fort George G. Meade after his second tour in West Germany. Upon his final retirement as a civilian, he established roots here and settled in Upper Marlboro where he lived until his passing. Until his illness Buck enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, fishing in the waters around his beloved hometown of Warren alongside his brothers, cousins, and childhood friends and spending lots of quality time with Noah, the youngest of his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Gregory R. Montague; sister, Betty Hines Watson; brother, Gary Hines; and nephew, Jason A. Hines.

He leaves to cherish his memory life partner, Linda Allen of Upper Marlboro, MD; three sons, Emmitt Hines III (Deanna) of Austin, TX; Michael Oats (Takisha) of Aurora, CO; and Ernest M. Hines (Brittany Harris) of Baltimore, MD; three daughters, Al-Nisa M. Aduwu (Meshack) of Laurel, MD;  Kiara Hines and Kylia Hines both of Palm Coast, FL; two brothers, Fred Harden (Ernestine) and Glen Hines both of Warren; four sisters, Alice Stokes of Milwuakee, WI; Ruth Harden of San Diego, CA; Lorraine Kashmire of Little Rock, AR; and Carolyn Hines McCoy  of Warren; 16 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, a host of other family and friends. We miss him dearly.
