Michael Ryan Obituary

Michael J. Ryan, a resident of Darnestown, MD, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at the Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, MD. Michael was born on July 17, 1950 in Aurora, CO and was the son of the late Francis J. Ryan and Mildred O’Donnell Ryan.

Michael was an avid golfer, biker and hiker. He was a genuine soul. Very kind, considerate and funny. Always had a smile for you. He was a prince of a husband and an adored uncle to many nieces and nephews. Michael was always a trusted brother and brother-in-law. He was there for his parents whenever they needed him. Michael will be truly missed by all who knew him!

A talented architect and artisan, Michael had a keen eye for the potential hidden in random yard sale finds and seemingly odd bits of junk. Building, refinishing, and transforming these finds into beautiful and functional furniture and art was a personal passion. His passion for natural beauty, especially the subtle lines and colors he so loved in “Zion”, “out west” influenced his style. These pieces lovingly adorned home, yard, and even the backyard shed humbly displaying his amazing talent as a designer. Sharing a beer and conversation, friends and family would have the joy of discovering something interesting each time they visited.

Michael is survived by his devoted and beloved wife, Jacquelyn “Jackie” Gillespie Ryan; cherished sister, Susan Rosenberg (Bob); three supportive brothers, Stephen, Len and Chris Ryan.

A Celebration of Michael’s life will take place in the fall.
