Joseph Dorsey, 88 yr old resident of Severn, MD, passed away in his home on June 19, 2019. Joseph was born August 21, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland to the late John and Goldie Dorsey. He was 1 of 15 siblings. Joseph attended Baltimore City Schools and from there he joined the US Army. He married his childhood sweetheart, Doris Pride. They were married for 60+ years and from this union came 10 beautiful children.
Joseph retired from military service after 21 years. He worked a few more years for the US Postal Service and then fro the State of Maryland. He enjoyed photography as well as woodworking. In addition, he enjoyed spending time with this family.
His beloved wife encouraged him to study the Bible and as a result he became baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on February 17, 1974. He previously served as an elder and at his time of death as a ministerial servant. He strongly believed in the resurrection hope (John 5: 28,29). He talked constantly of seeing his wife, Doris, again in perfect health. One of his favorite songs was "Just Around the Corner."
Joseph was proceeded in death by his beloved wife Doris, daughter, Denise Cook, and siblings Elizabeth Dorsey-Jackson, Carroll Dorsey, Catherine Dorsey-Foster, Daniel Dorsey, Marshall Dorsey, McKinley Dorsey, Louis Dorsey, Charles Dorsey, Virginia Dorsey-Ray, Dennis Dorsey, and two who passed away at birth.
He has 9 surviving children; Joan Savage of MD, Joseph Jr. (Cassandra) of NC, Karen Fambro (George) of MD, Cheryl Alford (Elihu) of NC, Sandra Johnson of MD, Kenneth Dorsey (Makini) of MD, Michael Dorsey (Juanita) of NC, Anthonly Dorsey (Jen) of Missouri and Sherry Dorsey of NC. His surviving siblings are Louise Dorsey-Yorkman and Theresa Dorsey-Jones.
From his ten children came grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren totaling 118! He also has a host of nieces & nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 1411 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD 21113 on Wednesday, June 26 2019 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Kingdom of Jehovah's Witnesses, 713 Cabin Branch Lane, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090.
